Well what goes up, must come down but Iapos;ll get to that later. I was probably a little bit too excited when I got to the rink this morning. I was keen to work on my own on some choreo for apos;crazyapos; before showing A-M in my lesson. It worked fine and we eventually did a couple of run-throughs with music and after a coupe of small tweaks she said its testable. I wont do the next tests as they are only 6 weeks away, but sheapos;ll put in for January for level 1 elements, level 1 compulsories and level free dance Hope I havenapos;t taken on too much. Iapos;m hoping that doing 3 tests will be better for my nerves as by the time I get to the free dance Iapos;ll have been on twice already and should be a lot more relaxed. I really really like my new free dance. I can feel a new dress coming on...............

The group lesson went of with a bang- or at least I did. Basic backward stroking an the next thing I was going over backwards and watching in slow motion as my feet passed before my eyes. I landed really heavily on my back and bashed my elbow. I felt fine and got straight back up- probably too quickly as I felt a bit wobbly afterwards but I probably needed the fall to calm myself down a bit. We worked a lot on changes of edge again but most of it was a blur as I felt like I had the wind knocked out my sails. It was OK though as we finished with Rumba Choctaw which Iapos;m starting to get. I had a short break before working on jumps and spins for a bit. Then I was a bit naughty as although Iapos;m broke, Tony had a some free time so I had a lesson with him too. I wanted him to put me through level elements so thats what he did. He gave me exercises to do for my still dodgy crossovers before moving on to 3-jump and toe-loop. We missed out spirals as he said mine were lovely : ) : ). I asked him to teach me as I was a newbie so thats what he did. By the time we finished it was looking better, style wise. Its still small but he worked out what I was doing wrong ndash; namely over-rotating before and after. He had me jumping on a straight line and checking the arm which meant a much more controlled landing. Toe-loop was the same. He said the reason Iapos;m scared is because Iapos;m more likely to slip off the toe pick if Iapos;m facing forwards. Heapos;s absolutely right By apos;toe-waltzingapos; it Iapos;m making it harder for myself. We worked on my arms a lot and its given me plenty to work on. We finished with spins- upright anyway, which he said was fine but gave a me a pointer for the free foot which resulted in a faster more centred spin. It was an awesome (long) lesson and even when weapos;d finished he still gave me a sculling exercise to do to improve the under-push on my crossovers. Ironically is was when I was writing his cheque that I realised I was getting a migraine and had to make a sharp exit before my vision was too impaired to drive. I only lost 10 minutes but I wanted to practice what apos;d learned with Tony. Ah well Roll on Thursday, I have my work cut out if Iapos;m going to do 3 tests ; )

Ihad a productive night yesterday, it was pretty cool. Logged in and changed to BST/NINand headed out to Quicksand Caves to kill Centurio X-I for a Shamanapos;s Cloak and if Iwas lucky, a Stonega IIscroll. Iapos;m starting to miss out on more scrolls. They will be gotten, but right now Iapos;m shying away from the costly -ga scrolls. Iapos;ll have to get my Jeuno mule fame up to request the Sleepga IIscroll.

Iwent down there and started clearing the area of the four Antica, then waited around for the next round of spawns. Ihad my character turned around and wouldnapos;t you know it Isee in my log: apos;Centurio X-I starts casting Ice Spikesapos;. Whoa Iengage without a pet, and the first thing it does it start casting Flood on me. I think Iapos;m good since Ihave shadows when I realize I never actually cast :Ni. Imanaged to get it off it time, it probably would have resisted anyways, but better safe than sorry. Itook it out with a couple Rampages, and opened the Treasure pool up as soon as it died to see a lone Dark Crystal. Iapos;m like, apos;wtf, a lone dark crystal, not even a scroll of any kind?apos;.

Iapos;m an idiot. I was solo so it just auto-drops into my inventory as Isee a flood of text in my log. The Dark Crystal was simply the last item. No Stone scrolls, but Idid get my Shamanapos;s Cloak. It looks stupid, but whatever. Imight go back down there some other time to see if I get lucky on the scroll.

After that, headed over to Onzozo to try for Mysticmaker for OniCitenapos;s Moldavite, but Eijul logged on and wanted to duo/trio Black Mage so OniCiten wanted to leave and do that instead. Went back and changed jobs and got geared up and headed out to Bibiki Bay. The xp wasnapos;t initially that great as we got used to the camp. We started by pulling with a short spell like Drain and the other two Black Mages would use Ancient Magic. There was a lot of heavy resists as we were level syncapos;d to Lv56. Eventually as Ileveled and we syncapos;d to Lv57 it came much more easily. Iapos;d start pulls with Burn to try to lower resists and Eijul and Oni would cast a Tier IIIStone or Water. As the spells were being cast I would cast Stun and then follow up with my own Tier III, and either Eijul or Oni would Stun once the spell landed. Using this method greatly saved mp and sped things up. We ended up at about 7.0k/hr at the end. Igot a little into Lv58 and we stopped there.

Iapos;m really liking Black Mage, though I wish Iapos;d have leveled it before ToAU. It may help hone my lowman skills, but thereapos;s a couple drawbacks:
- No Magic Bursts >.>
- Macro Setup Fails Hard. I have one macro set. Iput the highest tier spell for each element there. Couple sleep spells, Stun, Drain, Aspir, /heal. No -gas in there. >.>
- My gear needs an upgrade in some slots. Eremite rings go >.> Thatapos;s just pure laziness. Though, honestly, most my slots are very well equipped. HQ Ice, Ltng. Earth. I have HQ Earth hold over from Bard
- Must. Level. Red Mage.Subjob. ... #$@#.

Though OniCiten doesnapos;t like to admit it, Ithink he enjoys Black Mage. He keeps saying, apos;Iapos;mmeleeapos; - but he wants to level with us and he keeps buying up the scrolls and expensive stuff.

Today, Iapos;ve been living in Saigon for exactly one year.

This milestone seems more significant to me than my arrival in Vietnam. Arriving in Hanoi marked my leaving my old life behind, but arriving in Saigon was really when the new life began.

When I think about things back then, first getting to Saigon, those first few months even, and compare it to now, the difference seems so vast. I feel like more has happened this year than any other I can think of... Doing so many things, going so many places, meeting so many people. Watching some of those people leave the country or otherwise fade away, while others, mere acquaintances when we first met, are now much closer friends.

Socially I feel like Iapos;m a completely different person too. The teaching has certainly helped with that, giving my confidence a huge boost and really sorting out my fear of public speaking, but itapos;s been a much more social environment to live in too, which really helps.

And of course, most significantly, now Iapos;m all settled, with a wonderful, wonderful girlfriend and many awesome plans for the future too.

Talking of which, tomorrow the two of us will be in Hong Kong together :)
